Everything you need to know about tax-free weekend in Arkansas

Items from electronics to clothing will be tax-exempt this weekend, August 6-7, in Arkansas. Oklahoma's tax-free weekend is August 5-7.

ARKANSAS, USA — Arkansans will notice huge savings in their wallets when it's time to shop for back-to-school items during tax-free weekend.

Computers and other electronics are now included in this year's sales tax holiday along with school supplies and clothing.

The holiday allows Arkansans to buy a variety of products without paying sales tax. Online purchases will also qualify for the tax exemption.

Oklahoma and Missouri tax-free shopping begins on Friday, Aug. 5, but Arkansas has to wait a little longer—beginning on Saturday, Aug. 6 through Sunday, Aug. 7.

“Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on August 6 through all the way at 11:59 on August 7, any item on that qualifying list gets free local and state tax,” said Scott Hardin with the Arkansas Department of Finance.

School supplies, electronics, clothes, shoes under $100 and cosmetic products under $50 are all tax-free. And there’s even more on the list, like diapers and briefcases.

Hardin said this is the tenth year the Natural State has participated in tax-free weekend and they are hoping it’s the best turnout yet.

“I think we can conservatively say Arkansans are saving somewhere from 4 to 6 million dollars over the course of the weekend and we want to see that number grow as large as possible," said Hardin.

Along with buying tax-free in local stores, this applies for online shopping, no matter what store or site as long as you are shipping the item to an Arkansas address.
