GOSHEN, Ark. (KFSM) — A Huntsville High School student is dead following a crash near Goshen Wednesday (Dec. 18), according to Arkansas State Police.

A fatal crash summary states that a Dodge Neon was traveling west on Highway 45 around 4:25 p.m. when it tried to make a left onto a private drive.

The Neon failed to yield to oncoming traffic and was struck by a Chevy Silverado heading eastbound.

The crash sent both vehicles off the roadway.

The 24-year-old driver of the pickup was injured, according to police.

A teen riding as a passenger in the Neon died, and two other minors were injured.

Police have not released the identity of the teen killed, but friends say it is 17-year-old Salvador Fernandez.

Tucker Bradley was close with Fernandez and says he was a great football player and a loyal friend

“Definitely was the same not at all not even close," Bradley said. "He was really caring and one of the best people that I knew and he just did things for you that other people don’t do all the time. He was really nice and caring for everyone.”

Huntsville High School had a local pastor and counselors on campus today and postponed finals for grieving students.

His body is being held at the Washington County Coroner's Office.

The road was dry and the weather was clear according to the crash report. Neighbors say that spot is notorious for the sun creating problems for drivers at dusk, making it hard to see up the hill.
