UPDATE:  The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Cecil Gardner, Jr. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, according to Aric Mitchell with FSPD.

FORT SMITH, Ark. (KFSM) — According to police, a man was shot at a Fort Smith park Sunday afternoon (Feb. 9).

The shooting happened at Harley A. Wilson Park on North 8th and H Street. It is in Fort Smith's downtown area.

Investigators were at the hospital with the victim trying to learn about the motive of the shooting.

Before receiving medical treatment, Gardner said Julius Jefferies was the person who shot him.

The suspect was arrested just before 10 p.m. Sunday night (Feb.9) in Midwest City, Oklahoma and is currently awaiting extradition.
