CAVE SPRINGS (KFSM) -- A woman was swept away by water after flash flooding hit Colonel Myers Road and Highway 264 south of Cave Springs.

Rescue crews said the woman was trying to cross water over the roadway when she was swept away in her vehicle.

According to an emergency manager, the woman and her vehicle drifted about a half a mile before coming to a stop.

"The vehicle was swept off the road because of high water and it actually stopped at someone's field before the swift water teams were able to get out there to her," the emergency manager said.

The woman waited with her vehicle and door open.

Her vehicle was nearly half under water.

Crews said it only takes about six inches of moving water to cause a car to lose control.

"People don't understand the importance of turn around don't drown and how a little bit of water is that dangerous," he emergency manager said.

Rescue crews with the Highfill Fire Department, Centerton Fire Department, Cave Springs Fire Department and the Benton County Fire Marshal Marc Tollinger helped the woman to safety.

She was transported to a local hospital just to get checked out but is not believed to have any injuries.
