VAN BUREN (KFSM) -Two children were hospitalized with minor injuries in a Monday afternoon school bus crash in Van Buren, authorities say.
Emergency crews responded just before 4 p.m. to U.S. 64 in Van Buren, in reference to a two-vehicle wreck involving a Van Buren School District bus and a pickup. Several students were assessed by medical crews at the scene, two children were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, authorities said. Eleven children were on the bus at the time of the crash. The driver of the pickup was also hospitalized with minor injuries.
The children were treated and later released from the hospital, according to the Van Buren School District.
Arkansas State Police said the pickup truck was traveling east when the bus pulled onto U.S. 64 from Arkansas 60. The truck's driver tried to stop, but collided with the bus, police said.
The pickup's driver was cited on suspicion of failure to yield, according to Arkansas State Police. The driver's name has not been released.
School administrators, including the school district superintendent, went to the scene following the crash, according to the school district.
