SPRINGDALE (KFSM) -- Police officers in Springdale will be brightening the lives of many children Thursday (Dec. 3) for the annual Shop With a Cop event.

It's an opportunity for the community to give directly to the children in our area who are in need.

The event kicks off at the Walmart on Pleasant Road. Over 50 Springdale officers will be there for the event. The department does this every year during the holiday season so that the children can pick out what they want and need for Christmas. Whether it's a fun toy, or some clothes for the cold winter months, they will be taken care of. The grade-schoolers will go around the store with an officer, filling their cart with items for themselves and their family members.

This not only gives the kids a chance to have some fun, but it also brings out the "kid" in the officers as well. Allowing them to let loose and have a good time with the kiddos. After all, this event is all about bringing joy to the lives of children.

"It's amazing to see the look on the kids faces. The smile that they get when they pick out that toy that they've always wanted, or something that they wouldn't have had otherwise. It's one of the greatest times we have," said Lieutenant Derek Wright.

While the kids are there, they will even get a surprise visit from Santa Claus!

Springdale Police Officers will be taking high school students shopping at the Northwest Arkansas Mall Friday (Dec. 4).
