SILOAM SPRINGS (KFSM) — The Siloam Springs Police Department will be joining a national initiative to safely remove unused or unwanted prescription medications on Saturday (April 30).

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is sponsoring the National Take Back Initiative. The program’s goal is to help curb addiction and prevent the abuse of prescription medications, according to a department release. This also keeps the medications from polluting Arkansas waterways.

Siloam Springs will be participating from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, when the public is encouraged to take their leftover or unused prescriptions to the drop box in the lobby of the Siloam Springs Police Department, according to the release. They will not be accepting needles or sharps, syringes, or expired medications from commercial businesses.

During last year’s drug take back event, the Siloam Springs police department collected nearly 40 pounds of unwanted or expired medications.
