The proposed cable vote was an $8.3 million measure to run fiber optic cable directly to homes and businesses and add cable, Internet and phone services to its city-owned utilities.  According to our partners at TheCityWire.com opponents of the measure outspent the city almost 3 to 1 trying to get out their message to voters.

According to TheCityWire.com, the city’s board of directors studied the issue for 18 months before deciding to put it to a referendum.  Siloam Springs Mayor David Allen said the project would’ve been funded by reserve monies and would be paid off in 12 years.

Critics of the measure said that while the city said the measure would cost $8.3 million the city can’t guarantee exactly how much it would’ve cost residents.
