SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KFSM) — Former Arkansas Razorback football player Ryan Mallett has been arrested for DWI in Springdale.
According to Jeff Taylor with the Springdale Police Department, just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 10) Springdale Police responded to an accident near the intersection of New Hope and 112.
Mallett was arrested on the spot for driving while intoxicated.
A second vehicle was involved, but no one was injured, Taylor said. The cause of the accident was still under investigation.
Mallett was arrested in Fayetteville in March of 2009 for public intoxication.
Early Wednesday morning, Mallett posted comments on his Instagram about 1 a.m. regarding his arrest.
“I made a mistake earlier today, and it’s nobody’s fault but [my] own,” he says in a series of posts on his Instagram Story. “You should never get behind the wheel after even having two beers.”
Mallet says he’ll do whatever is called for by the law, but that the arrest shouldn’t define him. He said he can handle being the subject of joking only posts, or memes, online, “but if this teaches one kid a lesson, then good.”
“There will be consequences no doubt and rightfully so. I take full responsibility for my actions,” he said. “But when you take a step back, the only thing to do is keep going.”
Mallett also said the rumors that he was “hammered” were “complete lies.”
