ROGERS (KFSM) — The Rogers Police Department has warned those living within city limits of increased breaking or entering crimes.

From Jan. 1 – March 15, the police department has taken 250 reports of breaking or entering. In 2015 during that time period, it was just 62 similar reports, and in 2014, police took 66 breaking or entering reports.

According to police, breaking or entering occurs when a person enters into any non-occupiable structure such as an out building, a vehicle, a container, or machine with the purpose of committing theft or a felony.

Police stated that nearly all of the crimes were preventable, as the vast majority of cases where vehicles are broken into are because the vehicles were left unlocked.

Rogers Police say patrol has increased, but also ask the public to cooperate:

  • Hide your valuables. Don’t leave expensive items or electronic equipment in plain sight,
  • Lock your car. Don’t make it easy for a thief to steal from you,
  • Take your keys inside at night
