Daniel L. Keenan, 29, of Rogers, who is accused of raping a patient at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville was released from jail Thursday on a $50,000 bond.

Keenan is an emergency room tech at the hospital who was arrested Wednesday on a charge of forcible rape. The victim told police she was sexually assaulted on Monday by an employee while she stayed at the hospital at 3215 N. North Hills Blvd.

The victim stated Keenan came into her room and took blood, and later returned with water and crackers, a police report states. According to the victim, Keenan touched her genitals at least twice. Keenan is also accused of fondling the woman’s breasts and placing her hand on his genitals.

The woman said she pushed him away and called for help. She reported the assault the next day, the report states.

Keenan was developed as a suspect through a photo lineup. Officers arrested Keenan at his home on South First Street. Keenan denied touching the victim sexually.

Keenan’s wife told police he was investigated for a sex crime a year ago in Benton County, but she was not certain of the outcome of the investigation, according to the police report.

Officials with Washington Regional say Keenan will not be scheduled to work during the investigation into the sexual assault.

Police say these kinds of incidents are rare at hospitals.

"We don't get a lot of these, not from a medical facility," said Cpl. Daniel Montgomery with Fayetteville Police. "People have to feel trusted when they go there, so that I'm sure Washington Regional will rebuild that trust."

The hospital will also conduct an internal investigation, according to officials.
