YELL COUNTY, Ark. (KATV) — The Dardanelle Levee in Yell County has been breached, endangering the Holla Bend community and sending thousands more gallons of water into already-flooded areas.
Our Little Rock CNN affiliate KATV reports that the levee was breached about 12:45 a.m. KATV's Shelby Rose reports that the levee's breach doubled in size in just an hour.
Yell County Judge Mark Thone announced late Thursday that the Dardanelle Levee near Holla Bend would breach in the near future. He told everyone in the area needs to evacuate immediately.
It is not known if anyone was still in the area when the levee was breached.
Those in the city of Dardanelle are OK for the time being, but impacts in the future are possible, said Thone.
