Move over, mysterious Pine Bluff company that wants to buy Hostess Brands. You’ve got a little competition.
Bloomberg reports today that Kroger Co. and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. of Bentonville are among two dozen bidders vying for assets of the bankrupt Twinkie-maker. According to “a person familiar with the matter,” some of the bidders are “for all the assets, some are for just the cakes or breads businesses, and others are interested in individual Hostess plants.”
Kroger and Wal-Mart wouldn’t comment. But let’s be honest. This is entirely more likely to happen than a Pine Bluff company that’s had its Arkansas incorporation status revoked stepping in, throwing together some investors and taking Ding Dongs public again.
Meanwhile, as Arkansas Business reported earlier this month, there’s plenty of bread to go around, with at least one northwest Arkansas company more than willing to step in and pick up where Hostess left off.
