FORT SMITH, Ark. (KFSM) — Police are searching for suspects caught skimming cards at a local convenience store.
Fort Smith police say the people in the photos are accused of card skimming at the Pic-N-Tote on Phoenix Avenue in Fort Smith.
Card skimming is when a thief steals a victim's card information and pin numbers from ATMs, gasoline pumps and many other places of payment.
According to police, the male suspect is the one who actually placed the card skimmer onto the point-of-sale device while the two females, who had children with them, distracted the store clerks.
"If something sticks out to far from the card reader, that's probably not right," Capt. Philip Pevehouse with the Sebastian County Sheriff's Office told 5NEWS. "So you go up to a gas pump, feel it and see if it jiggles where you would put your card. If it jiggles somethings not right."
Many times skimmers will take a small amount of money out of your bank account each month that's only noticable if you are looking for it.
Pevehouse recomends keeping up with your accounts daily through online banking.
