MULDROW (KFSM) -- One person is dead and another is injured after a motorcycle accident on Interstate 40 in Muldrow Wednesday morning (Aug. 26).

Officer George Lawson with Muldrow Police told 5NEWS that the first call came just after 4 a.m. from a woman in Broken Arrow, whose husband was late coming home. The woman pinged her husband's phone for a location, which led Muldrow Police to a ditch near Exit 321 off I-40. Lawson said the officer on scene then found the wrecked motorcycle. Minutes later the officer found the two victims.

Muldrow Police believe the man was driving the motorcycle when he either drifted, or missed the exit. Officers said it appeared the motorcycle then crashed into the off-ramp sign, causing one of the posts to break off. Officers said that after hitting the sign, the motorcycle continued to roll another 200-feet.

51-year-old Robert Stringer was killed on impact, police said.

The passenger was a 40-year-old woman who was critically injured. She was taken by helicopter to Washington Regional Medical Center for treatment. Officers said she was conscious and talking to first responders when the helicopter arrived.

Muldrow Police said one helmet was found at the scene, but neither victims were wearing helmets when officers found them.

Police said they found alcohol on the motorcycle, but investigators are unsure right now if alcohol was a factor for the accident.

5NEWS will continue to follow this developing story.
