The deceased victim from a car accident on Highway 59 just south of Gentry this morning (June 20) has been identified.
Sophia Asencio-Porter, 18, of Gentry was identified as the deceased victim from the accident, according to a report from Arkansas State Police.
Asencio-Porter was driving a 1997 Nissan Maxima, the report states.
Arkansas State Police were called to the scene shortly before 4:30 a.m.
The accident involved a Simmons semi-truck, and the left side of the truck was damaged.
The police report states that Asencio-Porter was traveling north, while the truck driver was traveling south. Asencio-Porter crossed the center turn lane and was struck head on by the truck driver who attempted but failed to avoid the accident.
It is presumed by authorities that Asencio-Porter fell asleep, causing the accident, according to the report.
The truck driver was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.
A small section of hwy 59 was blocked.
