The new edamame plant in Mulberry will be opening its doors as the first harvest comes in. Before that happens, the company needs to hire the majority of its workforce.

American Vegetable Soybean and Edamame Inc., or A.V.S., will be hosting a job fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at Mulberry's City Complex.

The company is looking to hire about 40 people to work full time in the new facility. Mulberry Mayor Gary Baxter said an additional 60 people could be hired seasonably as well.

"The soybean that is this variety, the edamame, is being grown throughout the River Valley, and so it's a big deal not only in Mulberry, but in this area as a whole," said Baxter.

Construction on the facility is expected to be finished by the first week of July. That gives A.V.S. a few weeks to settle in before the first harvest arrives.
