LITTLE ROCK (KFSM) — A group of advocates, looking to place a proposal on the state ballot to legalize medical marijuana, turned in its signatures to the secretary of state on Monday (June 20).
Arkansans for Compassionate Care submitted 117,649 signatures in its attempt to legalize medical marijuana for people with certain medical conditions with a doctor’s recommendation. The group needs nearly 69,000 signatures from registered voters to qualify for ballot eligibility.
Other groups are looking to gain the required signature number for another medical marijuana proposal, as well as one for legalizing recreational use.
Secretary of State Mark Martin has 30 days to review the petitions.
