RIVER VALLEY (KFSM)-- If you're a single parent, and you've wanted to go to college for the first time or go back to school, but can't afford it, there's a local agency that wants to help.
5NEWS Anchor Daren Bobb sat down with Owen Shackleford, the executive director of the Single Parent Scholarship Fund, which serves Crawford, Sebastian and Franklin Counties.
"We offer largely financial assistance, but a lot of other sources to single parents that are trying to further their education," Shackleford said.
It's a competitive application process that aims to get people out of poverty and into the workforce. They accept applications twice a year, for the spring semester and the fall semester.
