BENTONVILLE (KFSM)- A national hashtag campaign supporting law enforcement is making its way through Northwest Arkansas.

Some are using hashtags such as #weseeyou and #bluelivesmatter to come together for a common cause using social media.

Coehn Smith said he uses the hashtags to show support for his family.

"Many police officers do get shot and killed, just because they're police officers. And, many people do not like police officers," Smith said. "My mom and dad are police officers, and I support them.”

Smith's parents are deputies at Benton County Sheriff's Office.

"They protect America,” Smith said. “That's their job, to protect people.”

He said the hashtags will help officers know their dedication to the community is appreciated.

"It's a calling, it takes a very special individual to do what they do," said Petra Nading, who's the wife of a deputy at the Benton County Sheriff's Office. "Even though we may be on the sidelines, or behind the scenes, it's there. The support is there."

Nading said it is important for the community to know, outside of work, an officer is someone's loved one as well.

"They're heroes, who have a calling," Nading said.
