LAVACA (KFSM)- The Lavaca Community Theatre presents its first set of shows this weekend

"The butterflies have hatched in my stomach," co-director Mary Rollins said. "I'm happy, I'm nervous, I'm excited. It's just been a wonderful experience for the last two months."

Alice in Zombieland isn't just another play for Rollins.

"This is the first time I've done a community theatre in my community," Rollins said. "I have actors and actresses from age nine to 69, and that covers our community."

Her favorite part about this first play is the costumes!

"It's Alice in Wonderland and it's Wicked witch, and it's zombies," Rollins said. "So, we get to have a lot of fun with the costumes, and they make each person unique."

The whole purpose of this theatre is to give people in the area an outlet to have fun during the summer.

"I've only done one play and it was my senior year in high school and after work, I'm bored, and I was like, 'That would be great!' Two months of awesome, and it's been great," actor, Kevin Kimberlin said.

The actors and actresses said they recommend joining the theatre to everyone, even those who have never been in a play.

"It's a great experience," actress, Kaitlyn Lichti said. "I, myself, am very shy, but when I get out on stage, it all goes away."

After memorizing lines, creating costumes, and many rehearsals, The Lavaca Community Theatre hopes to make their town proud.

"The ultimate goal has always been for the audience to walk out of here and go, 'Holy cow, [we] didn't know we had that kind of talent in our little town,' and that was great," Rollins said.

Alice in Zombieland will have a second show tomorrow (July 23) at the Lavaca Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m.

The next play for the theatre will be next summer, and auditions will begin in May.
