LOUISVILLE, Neb. – Firefighters are used to rescuing scared cats from tall tree limbs, but what about a dog?

When Wes McGuirk returned to his Louisville, Nebraska, home from dinner Saturday night, he couldn’t find his 120-pound Great Dane Kora anywhere.

He was searching his front yard with a flashlight, when, suddenly, “I heard the whimper again, and it was above me,” McGuirk told KOLN. Sure enough, there was Kora, standing on a tree branch some 20 feet about the ground.

“I was like, ‘How on earth did you get up there?'” McGuirk thought.

After trying for 30 minutes to get the large dog down to safety, he decided to call for help.

The Plattsmouth Volunteer Fire Department, Elmwood Rescue and Cass County Sheriffs Deputies worked together to free the pooch, eventually using a long leash and harness to lower Kora to a tarp positioned below.

Although she was a little cold after all that time in the tree, Kora was unhurt and happy to be down.

“This is one of those calls that had a great outcome and will not soon be forgotten,” the Plattsmouth firefighters posted on Facebook.

McGuirk thinks Kora might have been chasing a squirrel or raccoon, but how the long-legged pup got so high in the tree is anybody’s guess.
