SPRINGDALE (KFSM) – A Hillshire Brands plane got stuck in the mud at the Springdale Municipal Airport on Tuesday afternoon (June 2) around 1 p.m., according to Bill Adams, owner of Flaps Down Grill, a restaurant inside the terminal.

The jet was on the taxiway at the airport preparing to get on the runway to take off, when the pilot noticed a smaller aircraft moving toward the taxiway. Adams said the pilot of the Hillshire Brands plane feared the wing tips from each aircraft would hit each other, so he maneuvered out of the way.

As a result, one of the jet’s wheels moved off the runway a few inches and became stuck in the mud, Adams said.

“I think the pilot made the right call,” Adams said.

The Hillshire Brands jet was a 1997 Cessna Citation, according to records.

One passenger and one pilot were  on board the Hillshire Brands aircraft, and neither person was injured in the incident.

Adams said recent rain caused the ground next to the taxiway to become muddy.

In August 2014, Hillshire Brands merged with Tyson Foods.
