LITTLE ROCK (KTHV) — The Arkansas Department of Health announced Monday that there have been eight travel-associated Zika virus cases reported in the state as of Aug. 1.
According to officials, there haven’t been any locally acquired cases reported.
Officials have not released more details into the eight reported cases.
Zika is described by ADH officials as a relatively new disease for the Western Hemisphere. It first appeared in Brazil in May of last year and has since spread to 35 countries in Central and South America and the Caribbean.
Zika is spread through mosquito bites and through sexual transmission from a man to his partner.
