FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- Fort Smith Police Chief Kevin Lindsey handed in his letter of resignation Thursday (March 10) to acting city administrator Jeff Dingman.

His resignation will be effective April 11, according to the letter.

Dingman was asked why Lindsey resigned since he was one of the few who talked to him.

"That's really a question for him. As far as when I asked him that same question, he said he had intentions of spending more time with his family," Dingman said. "Anything else related to that is a questions for Chief Lindsey."

Dingman was also asked if Lindsey was part of an investigation.

"No, absolutely not. No,"Dingman said.

The search for a new police chief will soon be underway.

Chief Lindsey will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. on Monday (March 14).

The conference will be held in the Bartlett Community Room at the Fort Smith Police Department, 100 South 10th St.
