HUNTINGTON (KFSM) -- Police and fire crews in Sebastian County are looking for a person who they say set a piece of property on fire on purpose.

“We feel it was an intentional fire,” Huntington Fire Chief Duane Logsdon said.

The property in Huntington was partially destroyed Friday (March 27) afternoon.

Mayor Gary Lawrence said he was on his way home when he noticed a fire near Broadway Street and Magnolia Avenue.

"Could have been kids playing -- who knows actually how the fire started, but it was definitely intentionally set,” Lawrence said.

“[It] started in the out building and it did spread to the outside area and made it to the edge of the house,” Huntington Police Chief Brandon Odle said.

"The dry grass around the trailer was spread out quite a bit and it was burning,” Lawrence said.

"The house has been abandoned, so there is no resident here at this time,” Odle said

Police and fire crews said it took at least an hour to put out the fire, which burned between one and two acres, according to Logsdon.

“We're still interviewing some possible witnesses at this point to see if we can come up with something,” Odle said.

The Sebastian County Sheriff's Office and the Huntington police department are still investigating.

If you know anything about this fire, you're asked to call police.
