RUSSELLVILLE (KFSM) – A court date of Sept. 8 has been set for a Booneville man arrested on suspicion of ordering marijuana through the mail, according to the Pope County Sheriffs Office.
Warren Griffith, 36, was arrested on July 14 after police intercepted a package that contained pot, according to an incident report.
The Pottsville Police Department was contacted by a Pottsville resident concerning a suspicious package she was worried about. She told police that her sister-in-law, Amber Griffith, called and told her a package was coming to her address and for her to call when the package arrived, the report states.
Another family member confirmed that they had received similar calls from Amber Griffith concerning the package, according to the report.
The package arrived, and police were given permission to open it. Inside, they found a dirty green pillow. After being given further permission, they opened the pillow and found a vacuum-sealed package containing pot, the report states.
Amber Griffith continued to call family members about the package. A family member told police that she was “very anxious and nervous about the box” and she was “really wanting it.” Still, she refused to tell anyone what was inside, according to the report.
The Pottsville Police Department contacted the 5th Judicial District Drug Task Force in Russellville and organized a controlled pickup of the marijuana, the report states.
Later, after a controlled delivery, Warren Griffith and his wife picked up the package containing the pot, and he was arrested and booked into the Pope County Detention Center, according to officials.
Griffith faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture – unlawful distribution, according to the incident report.
Griffith’s bond was set at $5,000, and he later bonded out of the Pope County Detention Center.
He’s scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Sept. 8, according to the Pope County Sheriffs Office.
