GREENWOOD (KFSM) — Many firework shows will light up the sky on Monday (July 4) including one of the biggest displays in the River Valley.

The Freedomfest 5K Run kicked off the event Monday morning with several hundred folks participating.

More than 80 vendors will be set up for Freedomfest; selling a variety of food, jewelry and even some clothing. There’s a play area for the kids and also live entertainment all day long. At the end of the night, a large firework display will blast off around 9:00 p.m.

The whole area will be a sea of red, white and blue as people come out to celebrate Independence Day.

Organizers said this event gets bigger and better every year with more vendors and more folks coming to celebrate.

“It’s free and anyone can come here without a penny in their pocket and still have a good day,” said Parks Director Richard McKinney. “Greenwood has always been very patriotic, and this is just a great chance to come and get together and say ‘thank you’ to all of our military and all the men and women that served in uniform,” McKinney added.
