A Springdale man was arrested Wednesday after police say he engaged in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl.
Benjamin David Nelson, 20, was arrested on suspicion of sexual intercourse with a minor and computer exploitation of a child. He remained in the Washington County Detention Center on Thursday on $75,000 bond.
The mother of the girl Nelson allegedly had sex with was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of permitting child abuse. Police said Teresa Hamilton, 48, knowingly allowed the girl to have sex with her adult boyfriend because the man was “a good kid,” according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.
Hamilton was released from the Washington County jail Wednesday on $5,000 bond.
Detectives found explicit images and a video of a sex act on the girl’s phone, as well as numerous sexual texts, the report states. The couple had been seeing each other for about a year, Hamilton told police.
