A former Bentonville High School teacher’s aide received less than a month of house arrest after pleading guilty Wednesday morning to carrying on a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old special education student.

Mandy Flynn, 33, was arrested in January in connection with felony first degree sexual assault after police said Flynn told detectives she had sex with an underage student.

Flynn pleaded guilty because prosecutors offered her a lesser felony charge, said Bonnie Bridges, Benton County deputy prosecutor.

Benton County Circuit Court Judge Jon Comstock sentenced Flynn to 28 days of house arrest with an ankle monitor, despite prosecutors’ suggestion that Flynn serve the time in jail. Flynn will also be required to register as a sex offender, and she will spend the next four years under probation.

Flynn’s father-in-law had originally approached police in January to relay information his son gave him about Flynn and the student. When police approached her, Flynn told them she had had sex and engaged in other sexual conduct with the student on several occasions, according to court documents.

The student also told police he had engaged in sex acts with Flynn when detectives later interviewed the teen.

Flynn was placed in the Benton County Jail on $35,000 bond at the time. She resigned from the Bentonville School District in January when police arrested her.
