LITTLE ROCK (KFSM) — The Arkansas Department of Health released information Wednesday (Nov. 9) about how it will handle the process of establishing infrastructure to take responsibility for the medical marijuana program passed by voters as Issue 6 on Tuesday.

Under the Medical Marijuana Amendment, ADH will be responsible for rule-making, issuance of Registry Identification Cards, tracking of dispensed marijuana and other operations.

According to ADH, the agency currently does not have an infrastructure for this type of program, so the process of fulfilling the requirements will take several months.

The amendment allows qualifying patients and designated caregivers to apply for ID cards.

ADH will be required to maintain a database for dispensaries to verify the amount of marijuana dispensed to cardholders. The agency’s other responsibilities will include regulating labeling and testing standards, establishing reasonable fees, considering public petitions to add additional medical conditions to the list of qualify conditions, and submitting annual reports to the legislature.

ADH will update the public with information during the process here and will send out a notice when ID cards are available. The agency has also set up an informational call-line that will be updated periodically that can be reached at (501) 661-2367. Meanwhile, questions about cultivation and dispensing requirements should be directed to the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration.
