Game Day Blog: Arkansas Beats TCU To Advance To Super Regional

TCU gets second shot at Arkansas on Sunday night

TOP 9  – Kostyshock shuts the door on TCU, and Arkansas wins 6-0 to advance to the Super Regionals next weekend at Baum-Walker.

BOT 8 – Jack Kenley knocks in Fletcher to extend the Arkansas lead to 6-0, and the Hogs are three outs away from advancing.

TOP 8 – Scroggins gets the first two outs, then Jacob Kostyshock enters and closes out the inning to keep the shutout going, still 5-0 Hogs

BOT 7 – Nesbit leads off with a single, but nothing doing after that, and the Hogs take their 5-0 lead into the eighth.

TOP 7 – Scroggins works around a base hit with some help from a nice defensive stop from Nesbit, and it’s still 5-0 Razorbacks

BOT 6 – The Hogs go down in order, but still hold a 5-0 lead over TCU

TOP 6 – Cody Scroggins takes the mound to start the sixth, which means freshman Patrick Wicklander finishes the night with seven strikeouts across five scoreless innings. Arkansas 5, TCU 0.

BOT 5 – Matt Goodheart blasts a home run to right field with Ezell already aboard, and the Hogs build their lead to 5-0

TOP 5 – Patrick Wicklander’s first postseason start has gone to script. The freshman hasn’t allowed a run over five innings and has struck out seven Horned Frogs while walking just one. Hogs 3, Frogs 0.

BOT 4 – The Razorbacks go down 1-2-3 in the fourth. Arkansas 3, TCU 0.

TOP 4 – TCU’s biggest threat has arrived in the fourth as a single and a double with two outs prompted a mound visit to Wicklander. A pop out to first kills the rally, though.

BOT 3 – Nothing doing for the Razorbacks in the third but they still lead TCU 3-0.

TOP 3 – Wicklander added one more strikeout to bring his total up to five over three scoreless innings. Martin, Goodheart & Fletcher are due up and that trio is 3-3 with two runs & two RBI.

BOT 2 – The Razorbacks went down in order in the second inning. Arkansas still leads 3-0.

TOP 2 – For the second straight inning TCU got a base runner on but they couldn’t push one across as Patrick Wicklander struck out the side. He has four punch outs in two innings.

BOT 1 – Arkansas wasted no time getting the bats going. Dominic Fletcher ripped a two run double off the left-center field and then Jack Kenley added an RBI double. Hogs 3, TCU 0

TOP 1 – After a 30 minute delay, freshman Patrick Wicklander took the  mound and stranded one batter one base and Jack Kenley made a nice defensive play to save a hit. Arkansas coming up to bat in a scoreless game.

7:55 PM – The start of Arkansas vs TCU will be delayed just a bit due to lightning in the area. As of right now, it looks like 8:30 pm will be the earliest the game starts. The game has also been picked up for a national broadcast on ESPNU.

Arkansas out-dueled TCU in the winner’s bracket Saturday night and now the Razorbacks will look to end the regional tonight.

The Horned Frogs kept their season alive as they beat Central Connecticut State 9-5 in the early game at Baum-Walker Stadium today. Now TCU has to play a second game against the Hogs at 8 p.m.

Patrick Wicklander will start on the mound for the Razorbacks.

Be sure to check back for updates throughout the night as Arkansas looks to reach the super regional for the second straight season.
