FORT SMITH, Ark. (KFSM) — The Fort Smith Police Department, Sebastian County Sheriff's Office, Crawford County Sheriff's Office and Franklin County Sheriff's Office say that Verizon and AT&T customers have temporarily lost access to 911 across the region.
Fort Smith police are asking that Verizon customers call 479-709-5100 for all emergencies and non-emergencies until further notice.
The Sebastian County Sheriff's Office requests anyone with Verizon that requires emergency services to call 479-783-1051. This number is for the Sebastian County Dispatch Center.
The Crawford County Sheriff's Office says all 911 calls made by Verizon customers that should be going to the sheriff's office are being re-routed to Van Buren and Alma Police Departments Admin Line. If you call 911 and reach Van Buren or Alma Police Department, please follow the dispatcher's instructions.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says 911 lines will be down due to an equipment failure that can no longer be replaced. To contact the dispatch center for an emergency, dial 479-667-4176. The sheriff's office says you can still dial 911 for emergencies, but your call will be relayed from a neighboring county. AT&T technicians will be at the Franklin County Sheriff's Office 911 dispatch center Wednesday (Oct. 16) morning to attempt to fix the problem.
