Arrest made in connection with Grape Street shooting

An arrest has been made in connection with the deadly shooting of a Buffalo toddler and grandmother that happened last month on Grape Street.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - An arrest has been made in connection with the deadly shooting of a Buffalo toddler and grandmother that happened last month on Grape Street.

Kenyatta “Manny” Austin, 25, of Buffalo, has been charged with two counts of depraved indifference murder, two counts of assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.

Austin is being accused of shooting and killing 54-year-old Yvette Johnson and her 17-month-old grandson, Kyrie. Johnson was celebrating her birthday that night.

"All homicides are tragic, but this crime on Grape Street was particularly horrific," said Erie County District Attorney John Flynn in a press release. "A woman, who was a steward of the community, lost her life in a senseless act of violence and the life of an innocent, little boy was cut short."

Two other people were also shot that night. They were treated and released from the hospital.
