VAN BUREN, Ark. (KFSM) -- VFW commander Earl Duty, 61, has passed away according to a Facebook post by Robert Jack VFW Post 1322.

Earl Duty was VFW Post 1322 commander and Arkansas District 7 commander.

The post read: "We regret to announce the passing of our beloved Commander and friend, Earl Duty."

VFW Commander Duty served 4 years in the US Navy.  He then spent 22 years in the Arkansas Army National guard. He was deployed to Desert Storm (2/142nd Field Artillery Unit) and then retired.

After that, VFW Commander Duty worked for a Fort Smith business for more than 16 years.

He had been sick for a while with an autoimmune disease and had just gotten out of the hospital before Christmas Eve.

VFW Commander Duty died unexpectedly Friday (Dec. 27) around midnight.

Visitation: Monday  (Dec. 30) from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Ocker Funeral Home in Alma

Funeral:  Tuesday (Dec. 31) at 10 a.m. at Ocker Funeral Home in Alma
