University of Arkansas Police and the Washington County Drug Task Force discovered the beginnings of an ecstasy lab on campus.

18-year-old Joseph Hutchins has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to manufacture after officers discovered several chemicals used to make ecstasy inside his dorm room.

UAPD and the Drug Task Force found the chemicals after students in Pompfret Hall began complaining of a chemical smell.

Gary Crain with UAPD says he's surprised someone would try to get away with this on campus.

"People are not going to tolerate that, especially in a residence hall, where a lot of people live, pretty congested population. Somebody's gonna complain. Police will certainly investigate and somebody's gonna be arrested," saod Crain

Crane says this type of discovery on campus is almost unheard of.

Not only is Hutchins facing possible jail time, he'll also face consequences on campus. The U of A judicial board will decide what those consequences will be.
