The Arkansas unemployment rate continues to rise, and job centers, like Workforce Solutions, are having a tough time keeping up with all the people.

"This is my first time here, I got laid off from Wal-Mart in February , a group of 300 of us, I don't know how others are fairing but I haven't found anything yet," said Amy Lamb.

She was one of many unemployed people looking for help at Workforce Solutions in Fayetteville Friday. The center has been so busy they recently added a new wing, doubling the amount of people who can conduct job searches at one time.

The Arkansas unemployment rate rose to 7.8 percent in March, that's up one tenth of a percent from February and almost a full percent from last year.

Many of these people have been looking for jobs for over a year. "Right now I don't know if I'll get an extension, the landlord is ready to kick me out and I'm a little hungry too," said David Quarles.

For Charles Myers unemployment is double the impact. He has a daughter to care for. "It's slow right now, a lot of people aren't hiring, it's hard for a lot of people to get started," said Myers.

Others say even the jobs that do become available aren't enough to sustain an ideal life style. "I was making fairly good pay, 14 dollars an hour and most of the jobs that come available pay minimum wage, eight dollars an hour, unemployment pays more than that," said Lois Fess.

However, Arkansas is actually in better shape compared to the rest of the country as a whole, which has a jobless rate of 9.7 percent. "Most of my family got laid off in the last year, worked in Missouri in a small plant that was closed," said Lamb.
