A local cake decorator baked his way to the top. Danny Lane won first place in the Food Network’s challenge "Christmas Classic Cakes."  There was watch party full of supporters where the show aired for the first time.

The moment everyone was waiting for as the room fell silent. When Lane was announced as the winner, the room exploded in support. The Harp's cake decorator had a smile extending ear to ear.

"Unexpected. I was going up against a champion. I didn't think I was going to win," said Lane.

But he did win and he wasn't alone.

"Our plan was to work the plan and not be detoured by anything they threw at us so it was actually fun," said Rebecca Woodard.

Most cake decorators in the food network come from private shops.  Danny feels he broke the stigma.

"That we do great cakes that any boutique shop can do we can do them too," said Lane.

Danny had to wait about nine months to be able to tell everyone that he was the winner of this challenge.

He feels his team was the underdog.

"I really think with the show they pick that one person that they think is going to come out at the bottom but maybe that's what they though with us. They didn't know that I had an artist assisting me so I had an edge," said Lane.

His assistant says the experience was unforgettable.

"It was surreal we are used to our customers but this was going to be in national television," said Woodard.

Danny says there might be a chance we'll see him again on the food network challenge.

For the holiday special Lane competed against three other cake designers.

He took home ten thousand dollars, which he split, the prize with his assistant.
