Lauren Kuenzel and her Mother Kim are known as the Green Pinkies. The duo has spent more than a year and $30K remodeling an old home they bought in foreclosure. They went even further then remodeling the home though.

When they first began working on the home it was a complete mess, but the ladies went to work, retro-fitting the house with eco-friendly features meant to save money, and our environment.

“We basically made it energy efficient using the sun as our main mode of energy,” said Lauren.

To call their work effort is being a bit modest. The two installed a solar water panel on the roof which provides hot water and heating in the winter. Now, when the sun is shining, The Green Pinkies are saving money.

When the sun is out a pump takes the heat and moves hot mixture through tubes under the floors into a storage tank.

It was a mess during the install, but now the savings flow like H2-O. The Green Pinkies plan to eventually rent this property to visiting professors at the University of Arkansas.

Until then, they’re working to enter the eco-friendly home in the Energy Value Housing Award contest, a national homebuilding competition.

Although, for these ladies the house was not really meant to be a money making deal. They say it's more about making a difference, and leaving the world a better place. It's hard to argue with that logic.
