Suspect arrested for deadly hit-and-run in Fort Smith

Police say 18-year-old Dyllon Smith was arrested for the hit-and-run crash in Fort Smith along South R Street and Jenny Lind Road that killed William Kyzer.

FORT SMITH, Ark. — A hit-and-run crash that left one person dead happened in Fort Smith along South R Street and Jenny Lind Road, police say.

Fort Smith Police officers responded to the scene just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, and found the driver of the victim's vehicle to be suffering life-threatening injuries from the crash.

The victim, now identified as William Kyzer of Fort Smith, died at a local hospital a short time later.

The Fort Smith Police Department (FSPD) Accident Reconstruction and Criminal Investigations Divisions identified a suspect vehicle as a 2000s model dark blue Chevrolet Tahoe. Using surveillance from a business in the area, police located that vehicle abandoned in an area near South 18th shortly afterward.

On Wednesday, July 6, FSPD obtained warrants for the arrest of 18-year-old Dyllon Smith, who was identified as a suspect in this case.

Later that day,  Smith turned himself in at the Sebastian County Detention Center on a charge of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident with serious injury, Class B Felony.

FSPD says this investigation is ongoing and that more information will be released at its conclusion.
